Known as Las Chicas Del Cable in Spanish-speaking countries, Cable Girls follows the lives of four young ladies living and working in 1920s Madrid. The women all start working for the same telephone company and we learn more about their own backstories and personalities as the episodes progress, with each girl having her own personal problems and past issues to overcome.
In typical Spanish style, the show seems to have dozens of interweaving plot threads all going on at once and each episode can feel jam packed with ups and downs, meaning there's never a dull moment. The show is a ton of fun to follow and does a terrific job of balancing lighthearted moments with a more serious look at the sorts of hardships women had to face in the past.
The feminist aspect of Cable Girls feels especially pertinent right now, helping to make this show extremely relevant to a modern audience despite being set almost a century ago. The acting is top notch and production values are high, with beautiful sets and costumes playing a big part in the show’s endless charm.
