10 Genuinely Horrible TV Shows Based On Popular Movies

9. The Ghost & Mrs. Muir

Somewhere along the line, a television executive with more money than sense thought it would be a cracking idea to take the wonderfully atmospheric The Ghost & Mrs. Muir and turn it into a sitcom. Basically stripping it of everything that made it unique and interesting along the way. Released in 1947, the film starred Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison, and was about a woman who becomes close friends with the acerbic ghost inhabiting her new home. How you can watch the melancholy ghost story and think, "Hey, this would make a wonderful sitcom. Let's set it in America, that'll be swell!" is frankly too much to even devote head space to. But it happened, all the same. Back in 1968, The Ghost & Mrs. Muir aired on NBC, starring Hope Lange and Edward Mulhare. After one season, NBC cancelled the show, leading it to be saved by ABC. It was broadcast by them for another season, at which point it was cancelled again, finally meeting the watery grave it deserved after a surprisingly respectable 50 episodes.
