One could reasonably argue that no episode of modern television sent such a large and throughly felt shockwave of panic, despair and disbelief across the spectrum of popular culture than Game of Thrones' "The Rains of Castamere." Better known, perhaps, by its unofficial name, "The Red Wedding," this was the episode of HBO's epic fantasy series that took the ethos of the series to its most extreme, killing off several main characters within seconds of one another in a devastating explosion of blood and violence.

The episode, which hones in on the wedding between two minor characters, Edmure Tully and Roslin Frey, set the stage for a horrific massacre that left two incredibly popular characters, Robb Stark and his mother,Catelyn, dead. The reaction to this episode was immense and widespread, and looking back it's not difficult to see why. It's an incredible hour of television - tight and tense, a feeling of unmistakable paranoia lingers throughout, foreshadowing the end. And this wasn't even the last episode of the season!
