10 Groundbreaking TV Shows That Were Cancelled Too Soon

9. Spectacular Spider-Man

This unexpected delight ran for 2 seasons, and is Marvel's response to Batman: TAS. Not in terms of it's tone or re-invention of the form, but in it's ability to provide beautifully animated story-telling with successfully adapted chapters from the comic book lore. Based heavily in the "Ultimate" Peter Parker, Spectacular Spider-Man nevertheless headed in it's own direction with revised villians and fresh takes on old characters, such as a Gwen-Peter-MJ love triangle. It was also known for it's brilliant fight scenes, which might appear deceptively simple, but in my mind, capture to movement and acrobatics of Spider-Man perfectly. In the end though, it was not to be. Only 26 episodes were produced over 2 seasons, and before the cancellation was confirmed, Ultimate Spider-Man on Disney XD has already been announced, thus eliminating most hopes that the fans held. However, it still holds a dedicated fan base, and IGN.com even placed it 2nd on their Top 25 Comic Book TV Show's list, where it was unsurprisingly beat out by Batman. Oh well. We'll always have that ridiculously addictive theme song.
