9. Kelly Cortlandt - Community
The name Kelly Cortlandt might not mean much to even the most ardent Community fan, but perhaps the name ‘Schmidty’ would mean a bit more. Kelly is the ring leader of the group of extra credit kids who attend Greendale for extra credit and take it upon themselves to bully Jeff & Britta.
While the kids are happy to attend Greendale while they’re still in regular school, they’re convinced they’ll avoid ever going there as adults. Jeff & Britta, as the two in the study group the least secure (and yet the most overconfident) try to take the kids under their wing, only to have it blow up in their face.
Kelly and her friends not only reject Jeff & Britta’s help, but tease them mercilessly.
Jeff & Britta are immediately brought down to Kelly’s level, getting caught up in ridiculous playground taunts, like the nonsensical ‘Schmidty’. Jeff also tries to get with one of Kelly’s friend’s mom, a plan which backfires once she discovers it’s all part of a childish ploy.
Community had a fair few characters pop up for a single episode in great roles, but Kelly/Schmidty is one of the best.
