10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About The Office

8. Busy Work

The Office Hank Azaria
NBC

To quote the great man Michael Scott, "I don't wanna work, I just wanna bang on this mug all day."

The cast followed this immortal quote to the letter, but the show's producers needed to create at the very least the look of actual work being undertaken. To get around this issue, they asked the cast and crew to bring in general paperwork and forms to fill in from home so they could "look busy" in the initial season of the show as they did not have access to real computers.

Eventually, once the show took off and the budget was expanded, everyone was given working computers where they upped their fake work game by instant messaging one another, shopping on Amazon, playing chess and solitaire, and reading news online. Oscar Nunez (Oscar) had the only computer with working speakers, and would often use it to play videos of people falling down, bumping into things, and other similar fail videos.

Another piece of admin related trivia is that the document that is being signed in the opening titles is actually a copy of the Los Angeles Municipal Code, Section 12.22.
