10 Mismatched TV Theme Tunes That Are Just The Worst

They're enough to make you switch off before the action's even begun.

Television themes divide us. Apart from CIS of course, which seems to unite viewers with their inner mod, allowing them to rock out to The Who for thirty seconds. So many theme songs though are horribly hit or miss, but there's no denying when a theme doesn't quite fit. One CBBC wildlife show for example took the bold move of using the guitar feedback at the end of The Prodigy's 'Smack My B**** Up' for its theme. If the title doesn't make it clear enough for you, 'Smack My B**** Up' is a song that's caused uproar for its misogyny, violence and shock, and it was used to introduce a kids' show about penguins and elephants; you can't help but feel a twinge of cringiness at that thought. Not all theme tunes are quite so inappropriate; some of them are just insanely annoying, laughably produced or completely ignorant of the tone of the show. These are the theme tunes that grab ahold of the show's feet, trying to yank it down the ratings' list with their vulgarity: it's a wonder that any of these weren't replaced immediately after the pilot was commissioned. Here are ten of the worst mismatched theme tunes; they're all ugly, awkward pieces of music that really don't suit the tone of the show, and let's face it, they're enough to make you switch off before the action's even begun.
