Sometimes when you a watch a film or a TV programme, you can€™t help but notice a flaw or two. You might notice it right away or it could come to you a while later in a moment of absent-mindedness. That one niggling little flaw that you can pin down and say €œThis is what went wrong€. And if you€™re feeling a bit egotistical, you might also be inclined to say €œThis is how they should have done it€. But no matter when it comes to you, realising that flaw will most likely bring the film or programme down in your estimation just a little bit. And the bigger something is in terms of both scale and ideas, the flaws can often be correspondingly larger. For example, a poorly plotted sci-fi film is always going to stick out more than a kitchen sink drama with broadly the same problems. It€™s a fundamental risk of doing something high concept. So in that spirit, we€™ve identified some of the flaws in ten of New Who€™s more disappointing episodes and suggested alterations that we think would make the episodes stronger.
