10 Most Hotly Anticipated Returning TV Shows Of 2017

It's been too long - and hopefully, these will be coming back in style.

Stranger Things Season 2
Netflix

December isn't just a time for looking back. I mean, it is that, and from a TV point-of-view it's a good opportunity to revisit the litany of wonderful series that've graced our screens over the past 12 months.

At the same time, though, it's a chance to think ahead to next year. And, well, 2016 has been a bit sh*t, so it's especially appropriate to look ahead to 2017.

Again, from a televisual perspective, things are looking pretty rosy. In this Peak TV era, there'll be countless more new shows to laugh with, cry over, and endlessly theorise about. But there are also some huge-hitters to return to.

Some of these aired in 2016, but it'll have been at least a year by the time they come back (I'm not including shows that are just on a mid-season break). For others, it'll have been even longer, with no new episodes (or just a special) this year.

These are the shows we wish we could have all-year round, and can't wait for them to be back on our screens in 2017.

10. House Of Cards Season 5

Stranger Things Season 2
Netflix

After a middling third season, House of Cards returned to form in Season 4. With an election on the horizon, it had a renewed sense of focus, and a new enemy for the Underwoods to try and topple.

It couldn't quite reflect the craziness of the real life 2016 election, but it did its best, including an assassination attempt that killed off a major supporting character, and gave us Frank at his most vulnerable.

Season 5 will build on the election, with the culmination of the battle between the Underwoods and Conways. It'll also have to deal with the terrorist situation that played out at the end of Season 4, and, of course, that surprising reveal about Claire means it should be a pretty different show in Season 5.

Return Date: Expected late-Feb/early-March
