10 Most Underrated TV Shows Of 2018 (So Far)

9. The Alienist

Gotham Joker
TNT

Without a doubt one of the most unique series' we've seen this year, The Alienist is far from your average crime drama. The mini-series is set in the 1890s, and focuses on the murder of a young boy, who is found disembowelled and on the Williamsburg bridge in New York City. Local alienist Laszlo Kreizler becomes obsessed with the case and attempts to get to the bottom of what really happened, which in turn unearths some dangerous truths.

While The Alienist performed well enough on TNT, the disturbingly brilliant period drama was an under the radar hit. In other words, it didn't get nearly enough attention. In fact, it likely found more of an audience outside of the US where it aired as a Netflix original.

While there is much to admire in this mini-series, it's The Alienist's setting and tone that make it stand out, setting apart from every other crime drama on television. The cast does a great job too, with Daniel Brühl delivering a great leading performance as the eccentric doctor.
