10 Nostalgic British Children's TV Classics

7. Chock A Block

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPHoDI315mA First aired in 1981 as part of the See Saw programming in the BBC (to replace Watch With Mother), Chock a Block was repeated until 1989. Chock a Block was a giant yellow computer that was maintained by either a man or a woman presenter - Chock a Bloke (childrens' TV God - Fred Harris) and Chock a Girl (Carol Leader). At the beginning of the show, whoever was presenting would ride in on a little scooter type thing and say "Chock a Bloke/Girl checking in!". The presenter would use the computer to search for a different topic each time. The presenter would talk, show an educational video and sing a song. Sadly eight out of thirteen episodes are lost from the BBC archives. I have the theme tune stuck in my head as I write this. Probably the vast majority of you reading will not remember it but it's worth throwing out there to see if I can jog someone's memory!

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
