10 Problems With House Of Cards Nobody Wants To Admit

Kevin Spacey sounds more like a Looney Tune than Obama...

The internet practically tore itself apart recently when Netflix debuted the third season of its first huge in-house hit almost a month earlier than planned. Then it transpired that the next instalment of House Of Cards had been dropped by accident, and the streaming service quickly removed the episodes, causing just as much consternation as their addition did. People are crazy for House Of Cards. It wasn't Netflix's first attempt at producing original programming but it was their first real success, and with good reason: the amount of money and talent they pumped into it (David Fincher! Robin Wright! Kevin Spacey!) paid off in huge ratings, critical acclaim, and a trophy cabinet heaving with Emmys. It's a fine show. It's got a distinct visual look courtesy of Fincher, a crazy good cast between Spacey, Wright and young up-and-comers Kate Mara, Corey Stoll and that guy from the remake of Dawn Of The Dead. The scripts are engaging and sharp, if a little bit like a mash-up of Dexter and The West Wing. Popular and celebrated as it is, though, there are some...issues the show has. Is there any character you can actually root for? What's up with Kevin Spacey's accent? And isn't that whole talking-to-the-camera thing a little lazy? Here are the problems with House Of Cards nobody wants to admit.
