10 Reasons A Friends Movie Would Be A Terrible Idea

Don't ruin the world's greatest show!

Friends is arguably the most successful sitcom in history. The jokes are still funny, even ten years on, and recently a fan-made video has been making its way around online, fooling people into thinking a movie is in production. This prospect has excited many fans, but in reality a movie would be the worst thing a studio could do. Studios want to extract the most money as possible from any concept; prolonging the series or creating a movie are the easiest ways to do this. This is not always a positive thing though; it isn€™t hard to think of many shows that end up flogging a dead horse when they run out of creativity. Do we want Friends to suffer the same fate? Friends remains immensely popular; we€™ve all seen every episode many times, and we are still laughing as though it was the first time. The encyclopaedic knowledge that most people have about the show proves that it is popular, and a movie would be a guaranteed financial success. However, given that the big screen treatment has killed other successful franchises, we should be sceptical about whether a movie should be produced. There are many impediments to making a great Friends movie, but above all we must recognise that the concept and execution of the show was so phenomenally great that the formula should not be messed with. As of yet the cast and crew have rejected any offer of a reunion or a movie, but that does not rule it out from happening in the future.
