10 Things BBC Wants You To Forget About Jeremy Clarkson

10. Saying Public Sector Workers "Should Be Shot"

Cast your mind back to Christmas 2011, when tens of thousands of people across the UK went on strike to protest against the government's changes to the state pension system. With support from teachers and nurses unions the industrial action was in the process of disrupting schools, hospitals and other services when Jeremy Clarkson took his seat as a guest on BBC's flagship program about nothing, The One Show. When asked what he would do with the strikers, he took a long hard think (about half a second) and replied that he "would have them all shot". With the show's hosts slowly just leaving him enough rope to hang himself with, he continued "I would take them outside and execute them in front of their families. I mean how dare they go on strike when they have these gilt-edged pensions that are going to be guaranteed, while the rest of us have to work for a living". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IG2AwuH5O4 Needless to say, comments about murdering nurses and teachers tend not to go down too well and the show apologised immediately afterwards.
