The Walking Dead is about to launch its tenth season, and fans are once again caught up in a familiar cycle. The reviews are in, and they promise a return to form for the bloated series, but this is the same hype that precedes every new year of the zombie drama.

The early impressions always promise a radically renewed formula, which eventually gives way to old habits, fan disappointment, and then a glimmer of hope when the reviews for the next season drop.

That same ride fans go on every year is indicative of just how damn frustrating The Walking Dead actually is. Unlike other shows, each season is a whirlwind of great highs that remind you why you fell in love with AMC's zombie hellscape in the first place, and crushing lows that make you wonder why you didn't just call it quits after Season 5.

That's partly due to how many production problems the series has run into over the years, with showrunners changing on the regular, high-profile exits and alleged network meddling that's no doubt left the writing team with a whole bunch of regrets over the major moments they completely f****d up.
