10 Tired Sitcom Clichés That Really Need To Die

2. The Womaniser With A Heart Of Gold

The Simpsons Lady Gaga

We all know this guy. He does utterly ridiculous and often creepy things to try and bed random women but that’s okay, because he’s a good guy and a loyal friend at heart. The sheer number of characters that this could apply to pretty handily sums up why this character type needs to be rested.

Along with the character type being overused, we all know how it’s going to end: our resident Casanova will fall in love with someone, settle down, and become someone who isn’t going to end up with either a court-mandated curfew, or an STI. It's such a well-trodden road that, a lot of the time, you can already see it coming after the first few episodes, like a beacon of clichéd writing

There are ways of shaking this up, like The Big Bang Theory deliberately portraying Howard as a creepy pervert who has no success with women, but it can only be a good thing to put the character to bed for a bit. And no, not with someone they just met in a bar.

Bonus Points If: The character is sharply dressed and has a well-paying job.
