10 TV (And Movie) Mysteries That Desperately Need Closure

8. How Do You Use The Three Seashells? - Demolition Man

demolition_man_1993_7 One of the most brilliant mysteries in cinema history is also one of the funniest, coming from the highly underrated sci-fi satire Demolition Man, starring Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes. In this world, largely set in 2032, it appears that toilet roll has become a thing of the past, and as defrosted Detective John Spartan (Stallone) learns to his disgust, paper has been replaced with three seashells which sit aside the toilet, with which you are to go about your lavatorial business. Spartan asks how to use the seashells - presumably after having done his business, which is really pretty gross - and is met with a room full of derisive laughter, making us wonder, how exactly does one use the damn things? Though it might make sense that one is for wiping, one is for washing, and one is for drying, various Internet images - too graphic to post here, mind - have taken hilarious stabs at it. While I would love to know what the writers had been thinking, it truthfully is one of those mysteries that's infinitely funnier left as a mystery.
