10 TV Shows Which Eerily Predicted The Future

President Trump! Doh!

Life imitating art is one thing, but there are times when TV is bizzarely prophetic.

News analysts and televisual psychics are paid to forecast the future, yet rarely are their predictions as accurate as some of those tabled by dramas and sitcoms.

These shows aren't trying to tell us what's going to happen in the world. Usually their writers dream up entertaining or shocking scenarios for kicks, and the fact some of them have come to pass says a lot about the state of the world we live in.

Whether it's foretelling the career paths of world leaders, prophesying the scandals ahead for certain public figures, or guessing the outcome of major sporting events, TV series from both sides of the Atlantic have proven that, occasionally, there can be prescience behind the fiction.

A certain Fox series about a yellow-skinned family has been doing precisely this for years, but let's just hope that The Walking Dead is wrong about the world one day being overrun by reanimated corpses and manicas with baseball bats.

10. The Simpsons - Donald Trump's Presidency

Donald Trump becoming the president of the United States: who saw that coming? Well, The Simpsons, 17 years ago, since you ask.

In the 2000 episode Bart to the Future, Homer and Marge's firstborn takes a leap forward in time to find out what the future holds and, as you might have guessed, he never does shed that perennial underachiever tag.

Lisa, on the other hand, goes straight to the top and is on the verge of becoming the president in this timeline. Her predecessor is none other than Trump, and he's left the economy in quite a mess.

Trump never made any secret of his political ambitions, but calling his election victory 17 years in advance is impressive nonetheless, even for a show which has made a habit of this sort of thing over the years.

Most recently, it came to light The Simpsons predicted that Disney will one day buy 20th Century Fox, something which has threatened to come to pass, if the reports about the Mouse House holding acquisition talks with the studio are to be believed.
