10 Unanswered Questions About The Office (US)

The show may be over but these loose threads still linger.

It's been ten years since American television aired its first episode of The Office, a single-camera, faux-documentary sitcom that was adapted from the critically adored UK version of the same name. And in that time, one thing has remained apparent: creator Greg Daniels and his team of writers were very gifted at bringing the big laughs. They were less gifted, however, at filling up plot holes. Over the span of nine seasons, as is bound to happen in any long-running sitcom, there were some drastic changes made to the characters. Sometimes these changes made sense (i.e. Kelly Kapoor's transition from demure customer service rep to boyfriend-crazy gossip), while other times they felt like a poorly cut-and-pasted character arc, as if employees of Dunder Mifflin were picking personality traits from a hat at the start of each week. So naturally, inconsistencies abound in Scranton, Pennsylvania. That's forgivable. The writers of the show can't possibly remember every little detail about the Dunder Mifflin Universe, after all. But some of these are discrepancies even Kevin Malone would have caught. And although the series finale attempted to explain away some of these glaring disparities (like why they never showed the audience what Jim wrote in that note to Pam at the Christmas Party), there are still a handful of unanswered questions that could have used a little extra screen time.
