10 Ways Sons Of Anarchy Must Continue

Prequel, or spin-off? Why not both? Here's how it could happen.

For at least two years now, Sons Of Anarchy creator and showrunner Kurt Sutter has been mulling over the idea of a prequel show about the formation of the titular outlaw motorcycle club. Cable network FX is understandably delighted about the idea: Sons Of Anarchy remains its biggest ever hit in 20 years of broadcasting. As soon as the seventh and final season concluded, however, talk started up again in earnest, and Sutter and FX haven€™t been a huge part of the conversation. Some people remain convinced that the prequel has been greenlit, that scripts and creatives are being sourced and courted, and that Charlie Hunnam is in talks to reprise his role as original protagonist Jackson Teller €“ there€™s even one going around that Brad Pitt has already signed on to play his father. Stuff and nonsense, naturally€ but for those pining for some rough n€™ ready biker action, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and just for a change it€™s not an oncoming train. Sutter has finally confirmed that there are still tentative plans to put together a prequel about the first nine men to form the Sons Of Anarchy Motorcycle Club €“ the Redwood Original. That€™s SAMCRO, to you and me: and that€™s not all. Likely to see production before any prequel is a spin-off to the original show, one based upon the Mayans, the Hispanic-only rival MC to the Sons. Fans of the show may wish it was the other way around, that the prequel took priority, but Sutter€™s busy with his new show, The Bast*rd Executioner, and won€™t be available to ride out any time soon. The spin-off, however, would need a different showrunner, a new take and a fresh pair of eyes. Either way, prequel or spin-off, it looks as though Sons Of Anarchy isn€™t quite over yet. These are the ways it should go from here.
