11 Great TV Characters Who You Never Actually Got To See

11. Diane (Twin Peaks)

Dale Cooper

Just who is this woman? For two seasons, Agent Dale Cooper would recount every mystery to Dianne through his dictaphone recordings. She tied the central character of Twin Peaks to the wider world and helped to make him even more fascinating. But who was she? His partner at the FBI? His secretary? His therapist? We never got the answer, even when we were introduced to Cooper's boss Gordon Cole during season two and his life at the FBI in the prequel Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, she remained a mysterious, unseen character. I guess we'll never know and she's probably still waiting for those tapes years after he disappeared into the Black Lodge in the series finale. I can't imagine that the Bob-possessed Cooper that got free would choose to keep up with his audio correspondence! She's also a character who would be higher up the list if we actually knew something about her character. As she stands, she's the silent support act to Agent Dale Cooper's investigation. So instead, allow me present you some of the best 'Dianne' quotes the show had to offer. And then get your copy on DVD or Netflix and watch the show all over again. I certainly will be!

"Diane, I'm holding in my hands a small box of chocolate bunnies"

"Diane, it's 4:10 in the afternoon at the scene of the crime. Here's something we haven't seen before: a mount of dirt. Approximately a foot and a half in diameter. On the top is a gold necklace with a gold heart. Correction, half a gold heart. At the base of the mount of dirt is a torn piece of news print. Written with the words, which appear to be in blood: 'fire walk with me'."

"Diane, it struck me again earlier this morning, there are two things that continue to trouble me. And I'm speaking now not only as an agent of the Bureau but also as a human being. What really went on between Marilyn Monroe and the Kennedys and who really pulled the trigger on JFK?"

"Diane, it is 4:20 PM. I'm standing on the bank of Wind River near the location of where the body of Teresa Banks was found. Diane, this case gives me a strange feeling. Not only has Special Agent Chester Desmond dissappeared without a trace, but this is one of Cole's blue rose cases. The clues that were found by Special Agent Desmond and Agent Stanley have led to dead ends. The letter that was extracted from beneath the fingernail of Teresa Banks gives me the feeling that the killer will strike again. But like the song goes, "who knows where, or when?"

I'll stop there, because I have a feel I could go on quoting Agent Dale Cooper all day...
