Back in 2014, it was estimated that The Winds of Winter, the sixth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, would be published around 2015-2016. Martin himself, meanwhile, has tried not to make firm estimates, but had hoped to have the book published BEFORE Season 6 aired... in April 2016. He then hoped to have it published in 2017 which, barring a last-minute Beyonce-esque drop, isn't happening.
The estimation has been repeatedly pushed back, rumours surface and get quashed, and no one - seemingly least of all Martin - knows when in the seven hells it'll be coming out. It's been a six-year wait already, which is the same amount of time that passed between A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons,
The book will be done when it's done, as Martin says, and then the process can start all over again with A Dream of Spring. A dream indeed.
