13 Most Hotly Anticipated New TV Shows Of 2014

10. Turn €“ 6th April, AMC

If Sleepy Hollow's flashbacks to Ichabod's past in George Washington's inner circle have you craving some Revolutionary War drama, you've lucked out with Turn. It's a historical thriller set in 1778 about the Culper Ring, Washington's team of childhood friends turned secret agents who work behind enemy lines to win the war against the British. Turn is also being billed by AMC as a glimpse at the history of espionage, which seems like a winning combination of the period genre and the tension of shows like The Americans. AMC have already ordered a full first season, which bodes well, but it's not surprising given the wealth of talent working on this adaptation of Alexander Rose's book. Jamie Bell, an underrated actor whose presence has improved a few lacklustre films (Jumper, we're looking at you), gets top billing as Abe Woodhull, a New York farmer recruited as a spy. Craig Silverstein of Nikita €“ a show which balanced its high octane plotlines with thorough character development €“ has scriptwriting and showrunner duties, and the pilot was directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes). Unfortunately there's no word on whether Turn's George Washington will also be a demon hunter.
