13 New TV Characters We Can't Wait To Meet In 2018

1. Camille Preaker - Sharp Objects

Sharp Objects

Screen adaptations of Gillian Flynn's work have been a mixed bag so far: Gone Girl was a superb, dark and violent mystery thriller; Girl on a Train was... none of those things. What they did have in common, though, were strong lead performances from their actresses, and that's where Amy Adams - one of the finest talents of her generation - should excel.

Camille Preaker is a reporter who leaves psych hospital and returns to her hometown to report on two grizzly murders, as well as having to face up to family issues when she's back there.

Adams can craft a likeable character easily, but she'll also be able to delve into the psyche of the character and give a multilayered performance that showcases the characters various struggles and strength to overcome them. And like Gone Girl, this one has a great director - Big Little Lies' Jean-Marc Vallée - and writer - Buffy's Marti Noxon - behind it, so the character should be part of a great whole.

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
