One Day At A Time's cancellation has been coming for a while now. The show is a critical darling, boasting 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, and its cancellation led to an outpouring of support and hopes for its survival elsewhere on social media, but it seems like it simply wasn't pulling in enough viewers.

It's always trickier to know with Netflix, as they don't release ratings data, but it's believed they came close to cancelling the show after Season 2, and that the viewing figures hadn't increased enough for them to keep it around another year. While it received great reviews, it didn't get a lot of awards attention, which might otherwise have helped it survive longer.

Netflix want shows that are going to both drive and keep subscriptions, and a sitcom with apparent low-viewership, that's had three seasons, and isn't winning a boatload of Emmys or Golden Globes, isn't really going to do that.
