14. "Honour Thy Father" - Despite An On-Screen Argument Toby And The Christian Right Leaders Still Manage To Incorrectly Name Which Commandment It Is
In the pilot episode of the The West Wing there is already a factual inaccuracy - and it concerns the 10 Commandments from the Old Testament of the Bible. When Communication Director Toby Ziegler is exchanging views with Mary Marsh and other leaders of the Christian right, they get into an argument about which one of the 10 commandments is which. Although they list "Honour thy father" as the First and then the Third Commandment, it is actually neither. "Honour they father and thy mother" is the Fifth Commandment in Roman Catholicism and Lutheranism, or the Fourth Commandment in other Christian denominations.
