Back in 2013, Al Jean promised the world that a Simpsons character would die in the upcoming season. Due to the sad passing of Marcia Wallace (the voice of Edna Krabappel) it never took place, but then in the summer of 2014 Jean again stated we'd get to see the death, taking place in Season 26 premiere Clown In The Dumps.

He'd previously said the actor involved had won an Emmy, which alluded to a fairly high-profile character being killed off, and the episode title made Krusty and Sideshow Bob seem likely candidates.

Then the episode finally rolled around, and the character who died was... Rabbi Hyman Krustofsky. After a year of build-up and clue-hunting, suffice to say the death of a pretty minor character did not go down well with fans, and Fox and the producers probably wish they hadn't teased the death in the first place.
