15 Best Animated TV Moments Of 2018

14. Paradise PD - Justice For G-Fitz

BoJack Horseman Don't Stop Dancing
Netflix

Paradise PD was a little hit and miss in its first season, but if it can follow up on moments like this in its second, it just might make it. After black officer Gerald Fitzgerald accidentally shoots himself, it launches a political protest about violence against black citizens by cops.

It’s a risk to take a serious subject matter and make comedy from it, especially when the show can’t really decide which side to come down on. They’re against cop-on-black violence (obviously), but spend the majority of time mocking the hysterics of politicising tragedies. G-Fitz being dragged into court as a Two-Face version as a thug and a cop is a brilliant piece of animation though to summarise the key theme of the message.

Justice For G-Fitz shows that Paradise PD is capable of decent satire, even if it needs refining.

The whole affair is similar to BoJack Hates The Troops in BoJack’s first season. It has something to say, but hasn’t really found the right voice yet. Unlike BoJack Horseman though, there was no equivalent to Downer Ending to show any potential in Paradise PD’s locker, but here’s hoping there’ll be more moments like Justice For G-Fitz anyway.
