15 Best TV Episodes Of 2018 (So Far)

15. Emotional Baggage - Arrested Development

Arrested Development Emotional Baggage

Arrested Development Season 5 (or rather, the first half of it) was mostly a success, i.e. it was better than Season 4 and, while not close to the highs of Seasons 1-3 at least felt like the same show.

It took a couple of episodes to get motoring, but by episode 6 it was really starting to fly, and that's when the old magic was most apparent.

It's perhaps no surprise that it comes in an episode that features a classic Arrested Development plotline: breaking a character out of jail (on this occasion, Buster).

All of the characters have more purpose in this episode, with Maeby and Gob (the twin MVPs of the season) shining particularly brightly, and while it's an episode heavy on the callbacks, it utilises them in a far more organic and clever way than any other Season 5 episode ("no touching" and George Michael & Maeby's 'relationship' are both used brilliantly) , and layering gags in the half-hour itself to hilarious effect.
