15 Most Disturbing Black Mirror Moments

14. Waldo For President

Black Mirror Season 4 Andrea Riseborough
Channel 4

The Waldo Moment began as the relatively straightforward tale of one disgruntled man and his stunningly successful CGI comedy character. The episode did a great job of reflecting many of the real-world foul-mouthed satirical institutions of the UK. But by the end, it was more of a Frankenstein tale re-jigged for the modern era.

Initially, Jamie and his quick-witted, ultra-honest pseudonym, Waldo, did a great job sticking it to the dullard human political candidates, until money and fame became an issue. It wasn't long before higher powers strove to use the renowned Waldo image to fuel their own political agendas, with or without the consent of his original creator.

Having the correct kind of moral compass, Jamie resists. But this only meant that the trash-talking creature operates under a new master, and Jamie is forced into the gutter to be disgraced and beaten near to death by riot police, as his creation takes on a new totalitarian life beyond his or anyone else's control.

In retrospect, it seems as though the comparatively milquetoast politicians were the better choice for public trust. No comment.
