2019 is set to welcome a host of new TV shows to be excited about, but sometimes you want the comfort of an old favourite. Luckily, what with this being Peak TV, the year ahead has plenty of those in store as well.

The changing landscape of TV, and more specifically the production of TV shows, means that series don't reliably hit the same annual start date as they often used to. It's commonplace for series to shift from spring to summer, and some to take a year or even more off, which is the case with many of these returning shows.

A note: this doesn't include the network shows that are on mid-season breaks, but those where either a full season is starting, or there's been a significantly longer gap than usual.

After dropping the first six episodes of its fourth and final season at the end of May, it's been a long wait to see just how Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will wrap things up.

Thankfully that wait is almost over, with the final seven episodes hitting Netflix on January 25. Season 4 marked something of a return to form for Kimmy, after a slight dip in Season 3, and there's a lot to resolve when the series returns, not least a major cliffhanger.

Tina Fey and Robert Carlock's sitcom has proved to be one of Netflix's most reliable comedies since its debut in 2015, thanks to its mix of irreverant humour, the inherent goodness of its titular character, strong performances from the likes of Titus Burgess, and handling of topical subjects. Hopefully, it can go out on a real high-note as it resolves the story of Kimmy and co.
