The Iron Islands were largely forgotten about after the events of the television series' second season, barring a couple of subsequent appearances by Theon Greyjoy's father and sister. They returned to the narrative fold once more in the sixth season, where Balon Greyjoy finally met his demise at the hands of his brother Euron, having perished around the same time as Robb Stark in the books.

Said books have yet to reveal the identity of Balon's assassin, though Euron is heavily suggested to be involved given his sudden return after years of exile. He manages to rally the Ironborn to his cause by promising them world conquest, beginning raids on the Tyrell coast in earnest. Forcibly pressed into this scheme are his younger brothers Victarion and Aeron, the latter of whom now exists within the series but seemingly without the loathing he holds for Euron in the books, which stems from childhood sexual abuse.

Though brutal and ruthless, Victarion is probably the most 'normal' of the three brothers given Euron's insanity and Aeron's religious fanaticism, though he is guilty of murdering his wife after her seduction at Euron's hand. Though he also despises his elder brother for this, he seems to dutifully serve him when commanded to court Daenerys' Targaryen in his name and bring her and her dragons to Westeros, engaging in a perilous sea voyage to arrive as her city of Meereen finds itself under siege.

Victarion's role seems to have been largely taken by Theon and Yara on screen, given that he will most likely end up in alliance with Daenerys' as his niece and nephew have done. Little insight has been given into his character as of yet, however, so the series' may well end up missing the naval conquest and revenge plot against Euron that he will presumably engage in.
