20 Best TV Shows Of 2018

20. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
The CW

The back-half of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's third season, which amounted to six episodes in the early part of 2018, was enough to qualify the show for this list. It continued to take Rebecca to some dark places, diving deeper into her psyche than ever before and showing the long, hard road to recovery.

Season 4, which is the show's last, has started off in a rather different fashion, for better and worse. Attempting to really analyse just what it takes to get healthy and happy, there's a great level of ambition at work from creators Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna, even if it doesn't all result in quite the same level of narrative as we're used to.

That's why it finds itself lower on the list than it might otherwise have been, but the quality remains impressive even with a dip. There have been some excellent subplots, covering everything from sexuality to pregnancy, and a lens turned to mental health that few shows can match. Add in some catchy-as-hell singalong numbers, and you've got a show that remains strange, brave, challenging, and above all else, entertaining.
