1. Rose (Series 1, Episode 1 - 2005)
Sorry, but this clunker is still essential New Who 101. In it, you will be given the blueprints to The Doctors life, his philosophy, and his TARDIS. But before any of that comes into play, we are introduced to Rose Tyler, the first of the New Who companions. Arguably the most important modern companion, she will help shepherd The Doctors transformation from emotionally scarred Time War veteran (more on that later) into the man hell turn out to be once David Tennant steps into the suit. As were introduced to Roses everyday life, we follow her on her quest for information pertaining to The Doctor. Its heavy on exposition, and the special effects are clunky as all get out (its still painful to watch that Pizza scene) but ultimately its compelling enough to work past its faults and make you want to pursue further episodes.
