2016, as already written by myself and literally everyone else, has been a bad year. 2017, then... well, things are probably going to get a fair bit worse, since a lot of the Bad Things that happened this year will really start paying off.

But hey, on the plus side, it looks pretty f**king awesome from a cultural point-of-view. New movies from directors such as Chris Nolan and Edgar Wright; new music from the likes of The Rolling Stones and Jay-Z; Red Dead Redemption 2, Resident Evil 7, Star Wars Episode VIII - it's all happening in 2017.

TV is, of course, no exception. With more shows produced than ever before, 2017 promises to be another huge year for the small screen. From dramas to sitcoms, book adaptations to superhero shows, there's a hell of a lot to be looking forward next year.

2016 gave us some great new shows, from Stranger Things to Westworld to Atlanta. 2017 should be just as good, and perhaps even better.

Who: Vanessa Hudgens, Alan Tudyk, Danny Pudi

What: A superhero show without the superheroes. This centres on an insurance firm, where the workers are left to clean-up the mess left behind when a superhero saves the day.

Why: A comedy series with superhero trappings is a good launching-off point, and there should be lots of fun to be had with that premise. It'll show us a very different side to the superhero world, though being set in the DC universe, some familiar faces might drop by (probably not Bats or Supes though). The cast is strong and darn funny too, especially with Tudyk and Pudi on-board

Where & When: NBC, February 2

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
