4 TV Show Genres That Need To Disappear

3. "Adult" Shows

adult-swim-renews-adult-comedies Another thing that really bugs me whenever I see TV is the fact that I can't find any good comedy aimed at adults. Sure, South Park, The Simpsons and Family Guy can crack out a smile once in a while but in the end they're just the same repetitive crap one season after another one. With South Park they're nothing but making obvious jokes centered around current pop culture without trying to do any new material; The Simpsons on the other hand keeps rehashing the same jokes and the same plots they've done in the past but with different characters; and with Family Guy the humor is the same they've done over the past few seasons. They're not unwatchable things; you can watch them and if you enjoy them good for you. But don't expect me to see the "genius" of those creators when clearly they're doing the exact same thing since day one. And y'know what? The rest of the shows aimed at adults are like that. Nothing but dick jokes and pop culture references. Hell, even the writers of children's cartoons can do more risky and intelligent things than the so called "adult shows." In fact, I'm pretty sure more children watch the shows I've previously mentioned than actual adults, while the adults on the other hand are watching My Little Pony and Adventure Time. And it's no surprise to see that happening. All you require to understand the humor on those programs is to understand what they're talking about and that's it. You don't need to put any kind of intellect or effort in to understand what's going on; there's no tension, not a damn thing. The worst part is that those shows can actually make you care about the characters and deliver some kind of tension to the story while still being funny. Kenny Dies is one of the saddest episodes I've ever seen on TV and it's still one of the funniest episodes in South Park. It has its dramatic moments and it delivers them with some really funny lines while still maintaining the tension in the story (Chef's speech about why God allows for bad things to happen was hilarious) - why they can't do the same thing again? I don't know, I guess for many adult humor is nothing more than that. Just some sex and drug jokes. I'm not going to lie, I still watch those shows and I'm a really big fan of Robot Chicken, but I would really like to see them trying something new instead of doing the same boring jokes and premises over and over again.
