5 Characters That Prove Game Of Thrones Is A Feminist Show

Daenerys Targaryen Game of Thrones tends to get a lot of flak from the feminist community. The ire of the shows critics is usually aimed at the sheer amount of breasts on show throughout the show and the tendency to use sex as a device to make exposition scenes more interesting. The term sexposition has been coined to describe the use of this technique in Game of Thrones. Sexposition certainly can go too far, the infamous scene in which Littlefinger gives instructions to two prostitutes comes to mind as an example. However, these criticisms are often levelled at the show by people who haven't actually watched it. If you can get past the nudity, then there are a great deal of feminist themes that actually make Game of Thrones one of the most feminist shows on TV. Female characters on TV usually seem to exist purely as the object of lust for the male characters or at least only seem to exist via their associations to the men on whatever show it is. Game of Thrones, on the other hand, is packed full of varied and interesting female characters. There really is a character for every kind of feminist. I should clarify that this article will purely refer to the TV show and not the George R.R. Martin books. Therefore there is a spoiler warning for the first three series of Game of Thrones.
