Kudos to Japan for being able to think up some of the strangest premises and make them marketable. Such is the case for The Devil Is A Part-Timer, based off the light novel series “Demon Lord at Work”, written by Satoshi Wagahara.

In a mythical epic, the Demon Lord, Satan, and his generals embark on a conquest to conquer the world of Ente Isla. Being powerful demons, their magic and abilities burn armies to ashes and make success almost a certainty. However, after being confronted the brave hero, Emilia, and being forced to retreat, Satan and his demon general, Alciel, escape Ente Isla through a magical gate leading them to modern-day Tokyo.

Landing in the middle of the city, Satan and Alciel soon realize that they no longer look like themselves. Due to the lack of magic in the modern world, and taking on human forms, the demonic partners are forced to survive in an unknown world.

How do they do this? Satan gets a job at the fast-food restaurant, MgRonald—that’s how. As Satan, now going by Sadao Mao, climbs the ranks of the fast-food industry, Alciel, now going by Shiro Ashiya, takes on the role of house-servant (apron and all). The series is filled with absurd humour built upon the fish-out-of-water premise. It’s heartwarming, lovable, and hilarious, and might make you crave fast-food more than you should.

Living in a place colder than it is north of The Wall, Brad keeps warm with all the excitement that comes from a good anime series, comic book, or movie. Being an opinionated sort of fellow puts him in a precarious position with friends and strangers, but applying that superpower to the world of writing seems to be doing alright for him.
