5 Great TV Characters Who Had Absurdly Harrowing Endings

5. Dawson Leery - Dawson€™s Creek

dawson leery There are some people that would make the argument that Dawson ended up with the one thing he always wanted- a Hollywood movie career. That argument certainly does hold some weight- the show ends with Dawson informing a couple of his friends about a phone call he has received from his hero- Steven Spielberg. Of course the friends he is talking to are Joey and Pacey and the scene presents the differences in their lives. Whilst he may have his dream job, his friends have each other, they may not have his money or glamorous lifestyle but they are together and happy. On the other hand, Dawson€™s life is shallow and empty, what€™s the point of having all that success if you€™ve got no one to share it with? Alright so maybe he was a sap, an ugly crier and everybody preferred Pacey, but I think it€™s important to remember that the show was called Dawson€™s Creek. The guy, who was meant to be the main character, was completely shafted at the end of the show. I will honestly never understand the popularity of Joey, as far as I am concerned she is a bland, selfish and worst of all boring character, but putting my personal distaste aside, both guys wanted her. Considering the fact that Pacey was already more popular than he was, this pretty much killed any chance Dawson had of getting with Joey. Skipping over a few years of, which one will she choose? We end up at the series finale, where we finally get the answer we all expected, Pacey. However there was another part of this dynamic and her name was Jen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PXI2FSKuTQ The show began with the triangle of Dawson, Joey and Jen- whilst Pacey was busy being seduced by his teacher- his buddy had to decide which lady he wanted to be with. As the show progressed and Pacey made the triangle a square, it became apparent to most of us that Dawson would most likely end up with Jen. That was until we flash forward five years and she dies! So Dawson, the protagonist, lost not only the girl but the consolation prize as well. Maybe that TV show he was running had a happier ending- because for Dawson- this sucked.
