In April 2016 the entire Turkish citizenship database was allegedly hacked and leaked online. Just under 50 Million people's data, including Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, were released including Full Name, Mother and Fathers first names, gender, date of birth, place of birth, full address and national identifier. At the bottom of the first page of the site listing the information there was an option to download a 6.6GB uncompressed file, but to date the data has not been verified.

The apparent hack was deemed politically motivated as the Website read ''Who would have imagined that backwards ideologies, cronyism and rising religious extremism in Turkey would lead to a crumbling and vulnerable technical infrastructure?’’ It also made reference to Mr Trump. Making a comparison of current Turkish President to The Republican hopeful.
