5 Most Unlikeable Lead Characters In A Sitcom

1263179021 If you've got yourself a nifty little show with a hated lead character, you've got yourself a bit of a problem. Sitcoms can get away with it... Most of the time. They can use humour as a cover up for someone being a bit of a tit, such as Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory. You're not supposed to like him because he's a massive tool, but he's funny, so we laugh, and then realise he is what makes the show great. But not every sitcom can nail this. Some leads are just nasty pieces of work that aren't funny and have no redeeming qualities whatsoever. And you'd be surprised how many shows make this mistake. Obviously this is all down to a matter of opinion, because not everyone finds Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory as funny as others, some people outright hate him. So I've tried to be a bit less judgemental here... Well, tried.

5. Charlie Harper (Two And A Half Men)

charlie-sheen-two-and-a-half-men_article_story_main Two And A Half Men used to feature one of the most unlikeable lead actors in a sitcom ever. Charlie Sheen plays a misogynistic layabout who seemingly does nothing with his life, but somehow rakes in money by the boatload. He has no redeeming qualities at all. Thing is, as the show progresses, he doesn€™t seem to change. Charlie has very rare moments in which he actually has a conscience. But these are occasional and don€™t offer any kind of progression in his character. In one episode he€™ll think €œhmm... maybe I should be a bit nicer and show some compassion€; and then in the next he€™ll be all like €œI'm a misogynistic jerk€. If he were to, I don€™t know, actually show some consistent decency then perhaps we could learn to like him. But he was killed off so that idea is out the window. I would say poor Charlie, but we were never given a reason to like him, so who cares.
