In the age of Netflix and binge watching, it's a common phenomenon to breeze through a show with 12 seasons in the space of a few weeks (well, maybe for those unemployed anyway!). However, even a seasoned watcher with multiple series under the metaphorical belt cannot declare themselves a TV master without having watched Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Avatar: The Last Airbender was a popular kid's programme on Nickelodeon, which encapsulated viewers week in, week out. Everyone would watch it, and then relive it in between trading Pokemon cards at lunch time. And if you found yourself in the small boat not watching it, well what was wrong with you? However, it's only when rewatching it as an adult can you fully appreciate the true genius of the show.

Now, it's a pretty bold statement to say its the best show of all time but the facts speak for themselves! Yes, your Game of Thrones, your Sopranos, your Wire's are excellent, but this offers something that other shows fail to provide.

And if you're of opposing opinion, prepare to have your argument destroyed.

5. Scintillating Writing

The premise of any good show is, of course, the writing. This show keeps to a high standard the entire way through, so you don't have to worry about a Game of Thrones finale-esc debacle. Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko create a captivating world, and the story has a distinct start and end point, so there is no Lost-making-it-up-on-the-spot type writing.

In a world where you can 'bend' elements such as earth, air, fire and water, the avatar is the only one who can bend all four. So the story follows a 12 year old avatar, mastering the elements and taking on the tyrannic Fire Lord. He is supported by animals and friends alike, namely Momo and Appa, and Katara and Sokka.

And if that wasn't enough to tickle your fancy, for the readers who love a critic review, its rated 9.2 on IMDB and 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, so they must have done something right.
