5 Reasons Why TV is Better Now Than It's Ever Been

4. We€™re Rewarding Creativity More Than We Ever Have Before

yunkai-620x372 I€™m an avid fan of Game of Thrones, book and show. I had actually read the first two books prior to the show being picked up for production and when one of my friends told me that it was, I just kind of gave a shrug. All I could think was that it would be cancelled in a month when it couldn€™t generate an audience. That same thought came to mind watching the first season of Mad Men, which I absolutely love. As good as it was, I couldn€™t help but get this sinking feeling that it was headed in the same direction most shows like it were. You can well imagine my surprise when it won Best Drama that year and Game of Thrones went on to become possibly one of the most popular shows of all time. They both seemed to be too far out there to be successful, but they became successful mainly due to how creative and interesting they were. They created whole new worlds for the audience to go into and gave us a real chance to become invested in things we didn€™t understand, go on adventures that we never had before, and see people and places that truly fascinated the mind. They became successful because of, not in spite of, how different they were. Rewarding change creates the future, creates things we don€™t know yet, and that is the lure of good television.
