5 TV Revivals That Were Worth The Wait

Where would we be without the return of Doctor Who?

It doesn't matter whether it's a long-running series that came to a natural conclusion, or a TV gem that was cancelled too soon, there's nothing quite like getting the news that one of your favourite shows is going to be revived.

A classic TV series making a comeback might've once been considered a rarity, but in an era filled to the brim with on demand entertainment and streaming services galore, they're becoming much more commonplace - and it's easy to see why.

From a television executive's perspective, it would make more sense to invest money in a series with an already existing - and passionate - fanbase, as opposed to one that has yet to gain a following.

The past couple of years have seen plenty of old gems resurface on our screens, and telly is much better off because of it. Of course, these comeback series' aren't always successful, but more often than not, they've been worth the lengthy wait. Let's take a look at a few of the more successful revivals, and the reasons why they went down so well with viewers at home.

5. Gilmore Girls

When it comes to passionate fanbases, there are few that could rival Gilmore Girls. The hit WB series ran for a total of seven seasons during the early '00s, and gained quite a following during that time. Unlike the majority of series', the dramedy never lost its charm throughout its lengthy run, and most of the storylines were wrapped up with a nice little bow by the time that the series concluded.

However, that didn't stop fans from wanting more Gilmore Girls and, in 2016, Netflix were more than happy to comply. The four-part revival - entitled Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life - was far from perfect, and the cliffhanger ending - which included Amy Sherman-Palladino's highly-anticipated final four words - didn't have anywhere near as much gravity as it would've had had Rory still been a college student.

In spite of this, there really was a lot to love about the Netflix revival. All of the magic and charm from the original series was very much present here. The dialogue was as witty as ever, and Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel delivered great performances. It also tastefully dealt with Richard's death, after original series regular Edward Hermann tragically died several years prior.

All in all, it was a treat to be back in Stars Hollow - even if it was just for four episodes.
