C.S. Lewis first began to pen the story during World War II. Those influences are felt and reverberate throughout the story. First off, because the tale begins with a group of children being misplaced due to bombings that occurred over London. It is clear that the White Witch is an allegory for Hitler's rise to power, and her regime that of the Nazis.

The story of Narnia is also commonly attributed to the Bible. Aslan's Sacrifice is modelled very much after that of Jesus, and Narnia as the kingdom of God. These aspects of the story are drawn from C.S. Lewis' own religious beliefs and bring lessons to the story that are of bravery, morality, and forgiveness.
