7 TV Shows That Improved In 2019 (And 3 That Got Worse)

There were a lot of TV ups and downs this year, but which shows improved and which ones faltered?

As with every year that came before it, the end of 2019 gives us the opportunity to reflect on everything that has transpired since January - and in this case, it gives us the chance to look back on the television landscape.

A year which saw the conclusion of long-running greats (Game of Thrones, Gotham), the arrivals of new big-time players (Batwoman), the streaming service returns of network fan-favorites (Lucifer, You) and the abrupt cancellation of others (The OA, Daybreak), a lot has gone down in the final year of the decade.

That being said, it was also an opportunity for the countless shows that had entertained viewers the year before to figure out new ways to evolve - whether that be learning from mistakes that just didn't work in the past or simply producing a more engaging offering this time around - in order to appeal to 2019 audiences. But with triumph comes failure as a number of shows suffered steep declines in their attempts to outdo what came before.

With that in mind, let's take a look back at the TV shows that improved a great deal this year, and those that, well, didn't.
