And he certainly delivered on that front, with the Tardis€™s telepathic circuits taking us further back than ever before. Back to when the Doctor was younger than eight years old. And because diving into the Doctor€™s past is something that can annoy fans since it can potentially unravel the mystery around him, Whovians as a whole have had mixed reactions to the programme€™s latest trip to Gallifrey. Particularly since it concluded with one of the Moff€™s signature time loops; wherein Clara not only gives the Doctor the dream of monsters beneath the bed, but also his creed of €œnever cruel or cowardly€. In the modern age where fandom has exploded thanks in part to the rise of the internet, it is much easier to gauge fan reaction to new episodes of TV programmes as fans can be online and registering their opinions within seconds of an episode being broadcast. Whereas in the days of Classic Who; this was reliant on fanzines, letters to Doctor Who Magazine, and the very rare occasions where groups of fans would be invited to contribute to current affairs programmes such as New Who writer Chris Chibnall€™s appearance on BBC One€™s Open Air in 1986. But in the digital age, disagreement and forum civil wars caused by disagreements over new elements added to the Doctor Who mythos tend to happen fairly frequently. Particularly in the years since Steven Moffat has been at the helm.
