8 Game Of Thrones Actors Who Originally Auditioned For Different Roles

Game of Thrones Margaery Tyrell

Margaery Tyrell is one of the showrunners' greatest successes in terms of actually improving upon the works of George R.R. Martin, turning a fairly blank character into one of the most charismatic, humorous, and conniving on the show.

A big part of that success was Natalie Dormer's superb performance, but she revealed in 2015 that she auditioned for a different part initially, because she felt Margaery was too similar to her character on The Tudors, Anne Boleyn. She won't, however, say which character it was for.

What we do know is that it was after Season 1, meaning it wasn't Daenerys or Cersei. The biggest female newcomers in Season 2 who Dormer could've feasibly played were Melisandre, Ygritte, and Talisa - if we had to guess, we'd say she went for the Red Priestess, which is a very different role to Boleyn. That would've been awesome, but not quite as awesome as she was as Margaery.
