8 Greatest TV Sitcoms About Comedians

8. Grandma's House

This short-lived BBC sitcom only lasted two seasons between 2010-2012, but they were certainly sweet (and sharp) enough to make enough an impact on British TV viewers. Created by former Never Mind The Buzzcocks host Simon Amstell and writer Dan Swimer, Grandma's House starred Amstell as himself and each episode took place at (take a wild guess) his grandmother's house, where he and his family would gather and take turns mortifying the lead. The series begins with Amstell revealing to his family that he's quit his hosting gig because he's sick of being praised for being mean and wants to find something more meaningful to do with his life. Everyone else has trouble understanding with this but supports him anyway, at least in the strange, quite probably damaging way that most families do. Praised for showcasing the kind of British Jewish humour not often seen on UK screens, Grandma's House is a gentle gem of a series that doesn't expect any real acting from its lead (like many of the series on this list) but benefits from Amstell's sharp wit and a wonderful supporting cast. Unfortunately, there are no plans to produce a third series, but at least this House will never jump the shark.
