As mentioned in the intro, an adaptation of Preacher has been in the works since the late 90s, with Rachel Talalay (Doctor Who) attached to direct in the early stages of development, and a script from Ennis himself.

Kevin Smith later came on board to help produce and finance the movie, and in the early 00s James Marsden was cast as Jesse Custer, but the movie couldn't move past the development stage. HBO were said to be making a TV pilot at one stage, but again it never came to fruition, while Sam Mendes' name was linked to a film version around 2008.

The series as it stands was ordered as far back as 2013, with Rogen and Goldberg developing it alongside Caitlin, and after initial talk suggested it would debut in mid-2015, it's finally getting to our screens almost three (or 18) years later.
